The first traffic light used before the invention of automobiles in France to transport the statesman safely to parliament house. It was controlled by an assemble lever and consist of red and green lanterns. The world’s first electric traffic signal used in USA. It consists of red and green lights and warning sound. Fifteen years later, Turkey meets the traffic lights. Yellow light added the traffic light as a warning.

Traffic lights operates systematically in a certain period with each other where both the pedestrian and the vehicle density are high. This is called signalization. Today, there are several types of signalization that have emerged using advanced technology. There are highway, seaway, railway, and airway signalization types. Highway signalization emerged from the lights which used to control the trains in railways.    

Highway signalization divided into two as central system controlled and device controlled. Central system-controlled signalization mostly used in big cities where there are heavy traffic networks. The aim of the central system-controlled signalization is changing the duration of intersection from a center to prevent unnecessary traffic jam. Device controlled signalization applied in small cities where fixed-time control is sufficient to ensure safe passage. There are fixed-time, variable-time, and detector-controlled types in device-controlled systems. Green time period can be extended by a detector that mounted on the road where the traffic density is high. In fixed-time controlled system, a device operates the intersection for 24 hours in fixed-time periods. In variable-time controlled systems, the vehicle transition phase will be extended in certain times. Apart from those, uncontrolled passing provided with several warning signs in county and small intersections where the types of signalization are not used. Pedestrian priority is important in uncontrolled passage. 

Unlike highway signalization, audible signalization can be used in railway, seaway, and airway signalizations. Detailed calculations are made to provide safe passage of trains especially in railway signalizations.  

No matter what kind of vehicle you are using, signalization is a system used to ensure the life safety. That is whys signalization is not only used in traffic. It is used in traffic training parks for children that have simple signalization systems. Therefore, they can learn the rules of traffic.
